Mounting stats with slab sensors hr

I use a 4" square metal box with a plaster ring. This gives you plenty of room for wires and spares. The plaster ring also provides a good fastening surface, much better than sheetrock! These metal boxes are also available with a nail bracket for studs. I have used pex for a condiut to slid the sensors it may not meeet code, however and flex or EMT condiut may be a better choice. I'm not sure how the electrical codes look at sensor wires.
These are a couple versions of tekmar sensors that I fastened onto an old fish tape to slide the sensor down the condiut. The fish allows you to retrieve it should it ever go bad. It also allows you to push it farther than just the wire would. Those "flexi" speedometer cable looking fish tapes work even better.
The new tekmar stats are a little challanging to wire as the connections are on the back of the stat not on the sub-base. For the "vision challanged" over 50 crowd it takes some practice to wire and balance :) They also nick ya 12 bucks for a backing plate (ordered seperate) to make it fit a 4X2 box!
Still a great control for the money and features. This is a single stage 510 model. I use it to sense and control air and slab temperature for floor warming and radiant floor heat control. The two stage version would be nice for floor warming/ forced air or panal radiator second stage.

Mounting box
Hey HR,
I recently installed my t-stat box following your prior suggestions. I chose to use a 4" plastic box and mud ring - maybe a little less durable but I don't have to deal with grounding the box now. I haven't done it yet, but will plan to do the drop in plastic electric conduit to the "well".
Regarding t-stats. Do you use the Tekmar 500 series & slab sensor as the primary control or have you paired it with an outdoor reset control....or would you use a different combination for OD reset?
Best Regards
