Carrier and Sears?

Dale

HVAC news just came out with the Carrier going to be sold by sears strory. I wonder what happened to the Trane and Sears connection? With Carrier having a boiler badged line I wonder what kind of prices and installers they will find. I wonder what Wall Mart will sell. Sears sold Heil for years but branded as a Sears, I wonder what the Carrier dealers had to say about this.

    We are not Thrilled

We are one of the largest Carrier installing companies in Colorado Spring and we are not thrilled with the idea, don't know what we are going to do yet.

    Advertising And Promotion!

From what I've seen in the pass from these guys installs there will be plenty of repair work! And on pricing I've found I can do most jobs better and for less money! they only can beat us with advertising and promotion! not from repeat customer base. Return phone calls quick and beat them to the punch!

    My understanding

is that Home Depot is just going to be a glorified referal base for Trane products. The selected contractors will all trip over each other for the 1st year or 2 until they select the designated contractors for each area. Home Depot will provide a lead and follow up after the sale to make sure everyone is happy. I believe the customer will pay the contractor direct and H.D. collects a referal fee from the contractor. The way it was explained to me is that Home Depot is moving towards the "Let us do it for you" as opposed to "do it yourself" philosphy.

    Competition

from equipment manufactorers has always been a sore point. We compete against these guys for work. Supposidly they don't recieve any preferential pricing on equipment but I don't believe it. York, Trane and now Carrier. I say lets build are own equipment and teach em' a lesson.

    I read somewhere,

that you're right! The biggest growth for them is "we can do it" for you! Most people have done that "do it yourself" and found it's not always as eazy as it looks.

    Plain and simple

Sears didn't like Trane selling through Big Orange. They waited for their chance and Carrier was happy to sign an exclusive agreement. I've got an article coming out next week with feedback from Trane and Carrier dealers who worked with HD and Lowes.

    Disposable income

is probably the biggest reason. The older the population gets the less inclined they are with saving $ and more concerned with getting it done correctly. Time more valuable doing what they enjoy. For a certain segmat of the population you will always have the do it yourselfer but the rest will turn it over to our children to install. Now thats a scary thought.

I just close my eyes and hope it goes away.......then I wake up and there is another d#$% orange building going up! But it is true, there is a living to be made fixing those horrible installs.....

There are people that will always buy from Sears , HD. or Loew's and these are customer' s that we would never see anyway. (example: I buy Craftsman wrenches and sockets unless they don't make what I need) The ones that are shopping for a good system Will buy from a quality contractor that can provide product knowledge, value, and comfort , and can help the customer with selection and financing at reasonable cost. They wouldn't be slinging the 0% financing bull manure if they had reasonable pricing. For n eyeopening experience have the wife call sears or whoever for a appointment for a watertreatment system or AC or even siding and watch and experience the sales pitch, and the cost of the instaall after their financing . Work your own numbers for the same project and see how they compare. You will realise that you can raise your prices to make good money and still provide value and quality for your clients.
