Mixing radiator types

I have hot water with the large old radiators througout my house. I thought I read where it's not a good idea to mix radiator types. I'd like to replace the radiator in the bathroom with a lower baseboard type. Would I be opening myself up to problems if I did this, and if so, what specifically?

Thanks,

JB

    Biggest problem, I see, is...

the amount of heat different type of units retain. Old Column rads hold lots of water....lots of heat... so they heat up and cool down faster than newer tube type rads and especially copper fin tube baseboard. There is also slightly different heating characteristics for a given water temperature.....The heating output accellerates faster when you raise the water temp the same amount on some types versus others. Its always best to try and keep the same type of heating units on a single thermostat, but if you mix types, providing continuous circulation helps pull warm water (heat) from, lets's say old column rads and circulates it into copper fin tube baseboards. If you can keep the same balance of radiant versus convective heat, this should keep heating very even, even with the mix of heatng units types. My own home is heated with a mix of columnar, large tube, small tubes rads, and also radiant floor with baseboards. If the water is kept moving, it heats nice and even. If not the baseboard only rorms go cold.
