Boiler Condensation and Bypass Valves, Mark
Mark Van Vleet
Member Posts: 1
I am working on a 50-year-old residential hydronic heating system.
Ive installed a small Teledyne copper boiler. Now I have a reoccurring problem with the heat exchanger condensing up every season. Teledyne recommends adding a bypass valve at the boiler to raise the inlet temperature, but friends in the industry are saying that since I am trying to heat a 50-year-old slab of concrete, my problem may not go away.
I'll install tha valve, but 'is this going to resolve the problem?'

Bypass Valve
Try looking into a TV thermostatic bypass valve which can automatically protect a boiler from low return temperatures by allowing full bypass when the boiler loop is cold. As the bypass flow temperature reaches the setpoint, the TV will blend system return with bypass flow until the system return temperature exceeds the setpoint by several degrees. Typically, a valve with a 140F opening temperature is suitable. Contact Danfoss for information.0 -
You need to ask new \"friends\"
Bypass will help, might take hours for boiler to stop running from cold start which is ok0 -
here is a bypass link
That shows and explains thermostatic 3 way valves used for boiler protection.
