Radiant Heat...Opinions Please!

I'm building a new home in New England. We are thinking of using hydronic radiant heat to heat the entire first floor (Approx..1400sq ft +-), and Hydro airs for the rest of the house. I don't know anyone who has/uses radiant heat that can comment on it. I would welcome all opinions/comments, good or bad, on what anyone has to say concerning the installation, cost, efficiency and overall comfort of this type of heating system. Thank you!

The installation is the most important thing. It has to be done correctly. Installation is a factor with cost. A better job will cost a little more. A better job will cost less in the long run than a job incorrectly installed that will not work. In other words do not choose the low bidder or some one with no experience[unless you have REAL good reason to trust them]. The initial cost of radiant will most likely be more than conventional systems like hwbb or fwa.I feel radiant is more efficient because of lower water temps and less exfiltraton of heat from the structure.Comfort is unsurpassed and unequaled. This you can not really assign a dollar amount to, but once have experienced the comfort you will understand what I mean. Comfort is greatly dependant on number one and number two. 1 Installation and 2 Cost. If you cheat or scrimp on either of these you will compromise the comfort. Check on the find a contractor page to find a home comfort specialist near you. I met with most of them this weekend. They really know their stuff and are passionate about what they do.
