Yuck . I think the Weil 68 series wasnt the best choice for steam . We run across a few of them that look bad , but not as bad as that one , John . What are you gonna be replacing it with ?

    A Sad Case, But........

...from the looks of the job it started the day the customer signed the contract to have it installed. Instead of a proper equalizer the contractor used a Midas Muffler ( anti surge tank ) and his vast steam knowledge is further exhibited by the copper riser and section of the main. When the water level began doing tricks our expert may have added a quantity of chemical to tame down the activity and that in turn began eating away the elastomer seals between the upper sections. Were the lower seals leaking as well?
18 years is a long time for the seals to leak but who knows when they really started to let go? Not yesterday from the looks of things.

Overall the entire unit looks like it was carelessly and infrequently maintained and the wiring trapped under the cover of the thermal switch is just icing on the cake.

Let's hope that somewhere along the line our expert installer didn't come back and throw sealer into the thing!

Don't you just feel good all over when you see a job like this? It makes me know that I do a good job and I don't have to get upset if I lose a few to the low bidders, after all, they know what their quality is worth and price
    themselves accordingly.

A final horrifying thought: Where is the pop safety???? or is it just not visible in the pictures?
