Fire-eye problem?????

Working on a 14 year old Patterson-Kelly boiler. On a call for heat it goes through the start sequence as normal, establishes a good pilot (18VDC flame signal) and never goes any further. The main valve doesn't seem to energize Don't work on many of these types so I'm looking for advice from Timmie M. or another of you commercial gas gurus.

    Fireeye

You need to take the control to a Fireye dealer who has the proper tester for your control. These controls are costly and I wouldn't guess , the ones I deal with cost over $800.00 wholesale. Where are you? Hope this helps!

    Flame rod

It's an old TFM-1D Fire-eye. The control has terminals S1, S2, 3, 4, running up the left side and 2, S, A and 6 on the right. It's continuous retry which I don't believe meets code anymore. All the books that I have give troubleshooting procedures for newer burner controls.

    Interlock

Steve,Trace out the main flame circuit, see if there are any
interlock,I had one awhile back that had one keeping out main flame. Not like today where everything is proven before the ignition. You might have a flame conductivity system.
    Where timmie?

401-437-0557, I will see what I can do to help you. I do not have the old book on the control handy but let us see how good my memory is until I can dig up the book out of my archives.
  • Fireye TFM1D Flame Safeguard Control

I have the information on that control in front of me. I can FAX it to you if you want. It is 12 pages.

S1 & S2 are connected to your flame rod and back to your amplifier.

Terminal 3 is for the pilot gas valve

Terminal 4 is for spark ignition

Terminal 2 is 120 volt neutral

    Terminal A is for alarm

Terminal 6 is for air flow switch

Terminal 5 is for main valve

On some controls Terminal 8 is connected to burner motor

And power is feed to terminal 7 through Limit switches, operating control and fuel interlocks if so equipped.

Based on your information the 18 VDC is good (minimum is 14)

If the pilot stays lit you should have 120 volts out of terminal 5 if you do not then the control is faulty.

If you do and the main burner does not come on then the gas valve is faulty or wiring to it. Check for 120 volts to the valve.
