pressuretrol and vaporstat

I read in Dan's book that a vaporstat is the best thing you can give your steam system. How much will I save in gas cost and how much BETTER could it help my American Standard circa 1969 boiler deliver steam to its cast-iron giants on the 3 floors above!?

well, the steam will move faster
at the lower vaporstat setting.0 -
Since steam is a compressible gas
and since most old steam radiators are now oversized due to adding insulation, storm windows etc., you don't want to run much pressure on an old steam system since it will just compress more steam into the radiators. If you have a severe overheating problem a Vaporstat can help.
Note that as you lower the steam pressure, you must pay more attention to the air vents on the steam mains. They must be sized to vent the mains completely in about a minute at 2 ounces pressure. Once that's done the steam will rise into all the radiators at the same time. The system will heat more quickly, evenly and efficiently.
