I will have to admit , this discovery could not have come at a better time ! Have been insanely busy this summer & needed a diversion. It has been fun flipping through the old books again , showing the crew what these behemoths would probably look like if we did uncover them.

We are in the midst of a total , gut & remodel of a school built in 1922. Removed the 2 steam boilers earlier this summer, along with a boiler feed pump. Last Thursday, crew began cutting up the slab in the boiler room ( in a basement 12' below grade)preparing to install floor drains for the new equipment. I get a call late Thursday , foreman complaining work going slow , footers everywhere , lots of concrete, brick & sand. Suddenly , a light came on ( a very dim one mind you). The boilers we removed were the 2nd set for the school , they replaced the originals sometime in the late 60's. I grabbed my hat & my bullwhip and out the door I ran . ( & yes , Dan I also took along a very bright flashlight , I was going to take an open mind, but I lost that a long time ago , not the open part , just my mind!!!!!!!!) It turns out , what we hit are the 2 original boilers , they were encased in brick and we hit the shells approx. 20" below grade . I'am trying to get a work stoppage , for historical purposes , but not having any luck. Wait , that's it, I 'll throw a bone or two in the trench . Trying to talk the crew into uncovering the remainder to see if they left the trim on these old girls , but may not have a job when the boss sees the labor & concrete bill! Once again ,I have to say " Thank you, Dan" because of you ( for a brief & fleeting moment) I actually had people thinking I knew what I was doing . Signed ," Ohio Jim"

2 new boilers , will be lowered through the opening we had to put in the side of the bldg for the combustion air louver. Boilers are roughly 6' high , 40" wide w/o gas train, 6' long w/o burner , shipping weight 3900 lbs, opening in the bldg is roughly 7' high and 6' wide , housekeeping pad is 12' below grade. We have hired some riggers for this one , it will be a interesting day
