Controls
Jim,
Nice job! What type of control(s) are you using to fire the boilers? I am looking for a sensor or aquastat on the supply main, but I don't see one?

THE WAY THIS SYSTEM WAS SET UP WAS WITH (UNFORTUNATLY) BOTH BOILERS MAINTAINING 170 DEG TEMP....OUTDOOR SENSOR CONTROLING PRIMARY CIRCULATOR AND THE TWO SECONDARY LOOP CIRCULATORS RUNNING 24/70 -
The returns
to the boilers really should be piped into the right bottom front tapping. Testing has determined that better flow through the boiler is established utilizing this tapping and therefore more equal heat transfer. This is the tapping we use on packaged boilers and we developed the "articulating hinge" on the burner swing door to allow the door to clear the return pipe. Piping the return into the rear tapping may cause short circuiting of the water flow through the boiler and therefore unbalanced heat transfer. Hope this helps.

MORE INFO PLEASE
WOW... A MAJORITY OF THE BOILERS I PIPE (95%BURNAHM)I USE THE REAR TAPPING FOR PIPING PURPOSES. I DID NOT KNOW THERE WAS A POTIENTAL PROBLEM PIPING FROM THE REAR RETURN. IS THERE ANY LITERATURE OR DOCUMENTS YOU COULD E-MAIL ME OR FAX, THAT WOULD BE GREAT. I SHOULD POST OTHER BOILERS AND GET MORE CRITISIM. YOU LEARN SOMETHING EVERY DAY!!

The I&O Manual
for the boiler specifies the front tapping. Check the manual for the boiler on page 13. There is a chart labeled "Purpose of Tappings" that will show what tappings are used for what. There is a column for Steam and another for Hot Water. Hope this helps.
