    Electric Pipe Threader.

I'm looking at an electric pipe threader in a "Northern Equipment" catalogue. It is a hand held model that threads from 1/8" to 1 1/4". I don't do a lot of threading but hate doing it by hand, and don't want to store a big threader in my shed. Does anyone use this type and is it worth the $250 being asked for it??

I just got this one from Rem for 1,200.00. It does up to 2". The rep told me the one that did up to 1 1/4" was a little slow doing the larger stuff, and that was 750.00.

    I can't imagine this thing does 1 1/4" for 250.00

    I would think buyer beware..

    JMHO

    I would run, not walk

from the $250.00 dies. I attempted to get more info about them. All I was able to find out was that are imported (from China,I think I gleaned from the conversation), they had a 90-day warranty and no one could tell me where to get replacement teeth. I was also told that quite a few had been returned. Things break. I had serious doubts they would hold up or even be repairable. We wound up with the small electric hand-held set by Rigid. After two and a half years, the reverse switch seems to have failed. May just be a connection but at least I know parts will be available if needed. I recall that set cost us about $1100.00 then...worth every penny, too.

    Hope this helps,
    Larry
