would be most helpful in a pump replacement. On the inlet side you could install one 1-1/4" valve on the boiler output (at the Earthlee manifold connection) and isolate the inlet side of all the circs with one valve.

Heck an inexpensive threaded gate valve would work here, maybe 10- 12 bucks worth to save draining and repurging a loop would be well worth the money. Especially if you end up being the one to replace a pump on a cold, hetic winters night!

  • Very nice work Jim

And those manifolds make them look great , and probably save time also . I talked to the manager of my company , and hes going to look into getting these manifolds , he lives in the same town where they maunfacture them . I hope he sees your job online . Icing on the cake .

Thats a great idea putting the plywood on the boiler . I wish the boiler companies would ship the tops of the boilers with plastic or something to protect it from solder flicks and thread sealant . We usually keep the top off till the job is done - but I hate trying to fish out a lost wrench down the jacket when the boiler is hot .

I probably asked you this before - but did you get the boilers down without splitting them ? We installed a V83 Thursday and with 2 guys on a moderately steep staircase , its extremely hard to balance the boiler going down .

fortunatly this job had a walk out basement. used a back hoe to get the sections around the house because the delivery truck didnt want to get stuck. once on solid ground we used several 30" pices of 1" black pipe and simply rolled it through the basement and put in place. in situations of stairs we use a heavt duty appliance hand truck and strap it very well. i really try to use as much ingeniuity that i can before i attempt to use the back!!
we have used heavy duty rope tied off the 1 ton van and slowly lower the boiler, used chain faults to lower boilers. also used electric hand trucks, but dont own one.

    Save one more step

Jomar and several others offer these MIP X FIP as well as MIP X sweat ball valves. These are full port with packing nuts on the stems. Saves nipples and assembly time.

Nice looking job with the Earthlee manifolds. First class welding on those babies.

i have seen those but never had the opportunity yet to use them. i wanted to put the ball valves in the copper above the flow checks{as you suggested on another thread} but this job had to get done asap. and i am so used to my boiler lists it was easier to bang it out the the pre-made list. things are getting a little hectic up out here in ct. as the temperatures are starting to get in the 30's at night. and the calls are coming in.

thanks hot rod for the input.

  • If you have the choice

Do you think its better to have the valve before the circ and flowvalve or after ? If its an easily purged zone , wouldnt isolating the zone before the circ be a better bet ? You wouldnt have to drain the boiler to change a circ . I like having a valve on the feed as well as return - but a valve before and after the circ is a little too much .
