Back from Belguim race - Scott

For those of you I told. I am back from Belguim after going to see my nephew race for the USA in the World Championship
Bicycle Race in Belguim.

Shawn came in 22 and was the first American to cross the line. He is the youngest member of the under 23 division for the USA and had a great showing. At one point in the race he was in second place, but they change leads all the time.

My brother, his wife and I were lucky to be able to stand in front of a large screen and watch the whole race and see them go by right before the finish line. Really exciting as there was a crash about 1000 yards fromt he finish and we just saw Shawns helmet get by the crash and swerve to the outside to get a 22 place. He could have been in the top ten if not for the crash.

We could not be prouder of him. This is really special considering eleven months ago he was hit by a van while practicing alone and had to be flown by helicopter to Mass General with a broken leg, cracked wrist, and skull fracture.

The photos are of Shawn signing in before the race, after the race with his parents, and the team photo.

All of you with children know how much this means to have a child represent the USA. I was moved to tears a couple of times ( big sap that I am )
