S.T. Johnson, that is. They also made boilers with top-mounted burners, but their original burners were standard high-presure units.

    It does

look like an old GE with a replacement burner. I had one feeding my radiant heat until my service tech retired and I couldn't get it repaired. Just before replacing it the master control used to stick and in the middle of the night, 50 degress in the house, I would go out and move the switch to start it up. They were very popular in the upscale sections of Worcester, Ma. My late Father-in-Law used to work for a company that sold replacements because the tankless attachements used to leak. He'd pull them out, weld the areas that leaked and then reinstalled them in friends houses. They were amazing units.

    A good canidate

It probably kept some Shake and his family going during it's 56 years. This is it's (sshhh) last year.

It's not that bad, you need to keep the donut at the bottom clean. Just like brushing out a cast iron boiler except the fire is on top.

It was converted to a Carlin in the 70's
It takes care of 3400+ sq ft. The phase 111 saves $$

    Kevin,

Ok here's the story up to now. I have a Dunkirk boiler, I inherited from one of those infamous McMansion renovations on a partial tear down, complete with a Bekett AFG. After I clean it up and test it I will know.
If it's ok, put in a new chamber and that's the boiler. The heating system is CI rad. monoflo on one zone & base board on the other.& A phase 111. It will have secondary/primary with variable speed injection. With all the stuff, including the chamber, I will have approx 400. tied up in parts. This is in a rental unit.

    Nozzle assembley

is tuff to get out when it slips down the blast tube on those Carlins, seen them with Becketts and Riellos. Still a few of those GE's kicking around in northern CT.

southern ct. also. (bridgeport area) i know the feeling of dropping the gun down. most of these ran on the original burners with a 1/2" overhead 1 pipe oil line. anyone remember the "timken"sling shot with the wick?? now that was a good burner!!
