I'm bidding a radiant job on a house w/ an existing hydronic radiator system would the following diagram work or do I have to repipe the whole boiler?

You need to repost the diagram......0 -
couple of things
obviously, repiping for pumping-away would be best
flowchecks on both zones?
how are you planning to control?
since they are interested in radiant, they would probably be open to constant circ and TRVs on the existing rads, if not now then plant the seed for a future sale

control
we would contol the boiler and two zones with a taco zone contol, and the radiant injection would be controlled with at wirsbo promix 212.0 -
what
kind of boiler if its cast you might have some very low return water temps if only the radiant zone is calling for heat, how large is the radiant zone can you work in a mixing valve if not i would primary secondary pipe this type of system and as mentioned earlier pump away

mixing hot water and steam
Can I add a pump and a hot water radiator on the 3rd (and top) floor of a low pressure steam system.
The system is early 1900's and I have it set on 1# steam.
It is a combination of one pipe and two pipe.
I want to do this because it would be used to heat make-up air for a spray room for our cabinet shop and needs to be more uniform and independently controllable.0 -
Condensation concerns with existing system
If you have high mass radiation in the existing system,I bet the boiler is condensing. You may want to put boiler protection right at the boiler (injectin pump or Retrun mixding valve and use supply water reset. You can set the reset curve for the highest temp need (either rads or radiant floor) and then mix down to a lower temp with a manual three way valve for the lower supply temp. Or if the required temps are reasonably close (within about 30 %) use only the high temp reset curve and let the other zone cycle. Have a system set up this way and will post pics in the next few weeks after I get it started up.

It can be done...
but you need a professional to take a look at the system to make sure it's not loaded to the max. You start robbing the boiler of BTU.s , you may not be able to make steam, and then you've REALLY got problems. The pump also needs to be in the basement IF it is feasible. CLick on Find a Contractor and see what you can find. If not, tell us where you're at, we know a lOT of people.
