Plumb bob

I have the one my father used in carpentry. Also use electrician tool bag, wooden tool box and wrecking bar. Coworkers all use canvas bags, but tool bag keeps tools at hand for wiring up. Wrecking bar good to pull duct apart.

    I've got.....

two. Plus I still use a folding six foot rule with the extension when I am feeling nostalgic. I also use a two foot framing square and sometimes masons twine to lay things out. A laser would be nice. If I ever have a real need I might get one.

    plumb bob

I use one all the time. Don't worry, have a laser also but a bob can't be beat for a quick reference. Also no batteries to run out, you know how murphy's law works.

    In the precision tool box

along with the combination square, folding rule, etched rule, machined torpodo level, magnetic jointer knife setter, Incra protractor, etc., etc.

Couldn't get along without it when building decks, installing new partitions, pouring walls/footings, etc.

    AND you

Can tell which way is up! Sometimes, someone wants to see if you know. Then you can show them that there is a automatically calibrated way to know for sure, anyway bigugh

  • Nice!

Kind of a long-named bob... plumb bob is a shorter word than "an old lead fishing sinker for salt water- no one steals them. bob" , but I have one of those, too. Clever name...

    plumb bob

I still have one. Used to use one a lot when I surveyed, actuallly liked the 16 ounce one best. We used to joke and call it a "plumb robert", course that also came from the guys who told me to turn an angle of 89-59-60!

    Sometimes ...

I get strange looks form co-workers as I lean over the tool box whistling and calling "Bob, here Bob!" The young snots also think i'm crazy when I tell them to "run out to the truck and get Bob"

sure them newfangeled fancyassed lazer thing-a-ma-BOB's are kinda handy, in the right spot, but what ya gona call it?

"here Laz, hear Laz" just dont sound right.

And for the record, my 8 foot "ruladiller" gets far more use then the steel tape i got.

    Altitude check!

Plumb bobs crashing to the ground from the top of an eight foot ladder don't hurt as much as the lazer levels do.
