What brand Higher efficiency Boilers at 1million btu?

My customers kewaunee steam boiler needs some tubes. He's been thinking of going to Hot water for some time, this just cinches it for him. The steam goes to a number of steam to hot water tube bundles 30 ft away, not sure why the engineer did it this way. Burner is 6,300,000 btu/hr. Who's making efficient boilers for primary/secondary in the 1 million btu range? I'm not liking Aerco's- too complicated, proprietary, expensive and their tubes foul too easy.
Any suggestions?

Try looking at Teledyne Laars Mighty Therm. Up to 5 mil Btu and great material on primary-secondary piping. I think web site is laars.com

    What's your real load?

I bet that 6.3 million Btu burner is way too big. I came across 14 million btu burner feeding a 2.5 million btu load and 3 million btu burner feeding a 600,000 btu load. I'd get out the meauring tape and the pencil and paper before looking at boiler specs, you'l probably be shocked at what you find out especially if there are other things in the system that are not well thought out..like a steam boiler feeding hot water tubes 30 feet away. BTW... is the hot water system high pressure, this may be the reason for the steam boiler.... to get around high pressure boiler requirements.

Thanks guys for the advice. I'll look at the water side pressure question, and I think he got a quote from JC so there may be a load calc - if not I'll have to look at the blueprints - it's a large school.

    Do you need high eff??

You might want to consider the fact that just about every high efficiency boiler falls below 90% at water temps that are normally used in schools and the like. Check the specs on the big condensing boilers carefully and you'll find that they run at about 86-89% at anything over 150* water temp. That leaves you with only a 2-3% difference in efficiency for what is usually a lot more up front cost. A good Buderus or Viessmann commercial size, regular cast iron type unit like that will run 85% all day long with a lot less complexity and a lot more durability. JMHO

    Fulton Pulse

I saw a couple of Fultons, a apartment job with air handlers, & snow melt. Don't know anything about them but they sure looked great! PVC venting, 96% rating (at what return I don't know)anyway might look at them.

Take a look at Raypak's ADB series with CHX heat exchanger. They are available at 500,750,1000 and 1500mbtu sizes at 97% efficiency.
We do well selling them in our territory. We recommend primary/secondary piping, and having your local Raypak rep or factory authorized startup service set them up. They work better and they can show you the setup at the same time.
    Good luck!
