Oldest house Ive worked in

that are 30 years old or less . The bigger part of this house was built in 1817 . This one is in Wading River , overlooking the failed nuclear power plant . Roundtrip from the shop was 106 miles . Oh , and then there is a boiler.

  • Big one

I forget the name on this 6 section , but it had a green cloverleaf on the front .
  • The lady of the house

is in her 90s , and only uses the newer part of the house , only 6 radiators are connected . There used to be 16 . We put in a 3/4 bypass , just in case .

  • Not good

The floor in the boilerroom was all dirt and cement , no good , level spot to put the boiler on at all. So we used the solid blocks . And getting into the boilerroom was even better - the wood floor was rotted out , so we had to bring a piece of 3/4 plywood . We still fell through in one spot . Thank you Chuck .

Ron, I think that was an old Ideal

made by American Radiator Co. Thye used to put the four-leaf clover on many of their boilers. Hard to tell from the photo which model it was.

And the replacement job is beautiful, too.

  • Man , youre good

Yes , it was an Ideal . After you said it , I remembered seeing the nameplate . Very good eyes , Steamhead . I should remember it though . Ive ripped out 1500+ cast iron boilers , and can probably name only 3 or 4 brands just by looking at them . Thanks for the compliment .
