Mixing Mono-Flo and Two Pipe system

Hi There,
I have an old house with mon-flo system througout. The house has 3 stories. I am about to add a basement apartment and will need to put rads in the basement. I also want to move a lot of the cast pipe that was left dangling below the first floor joists in the way of what will soon be the apartement.
I am considering pulling all the black pipe out to fittings that are just below the floor, then running a two-pipe system to all the first floor and basement cast-iron rads using copper.
Do I need to zone this set-up seperately from the other system?

Yes you can
as long as everything is sized properly, you should be fine.
I certainly would make this a separate zone. While it's not absulutely needed for the system to work, it will give you better control over temperatures in different parts of the house, and shouldn't cost that much more to do since you'll have the system torn apart anyway.
