Steam Radiators - Install hieght

Options
I have some information on old steam radiators capacities and some factors. I would like, if it exists, factors for installing a radiator at different heights - specifically at say 8' AFF in a 14' high room.
Any ideas are references?????

    See..

click on Hot Tech Topics in the left hand toolbar. There's many references and monographs on radiators, heights, etc.

    Not there.
I have copies of pages form an old handbook with ratings, and factors for paint and enclosures, but I do not have the whole book nor do I know the name.
I don't know if what I'm looking for exists.
I saw the ad for Holohan's EDR book. Any height of install information in it?
Radiators were installed horizontal below the roof in industrial buildings leading me to believe there is some information out there.

    Chuck, I recall

seeing something like that in one of my Dead Men's Books. I'll see if I can find it and get back to you.

    Found it

From the 1947 ASHVE guide, Chapter 25- "Radiators, Convectors, Coils":

"Tests have shown that the heat emitted from a wall-type radiator may be reduced from 5 to 10 percent if the radiator is placed near the ceiling with the bars horizontal and in an air temperature exceeding 70 degrees F".

    And,

"When radiators are placed near the ceiling, there is usually such a large difference in the temperature between the floor level and the ceiling that it becomes difficult to heat the living zone of the room satisfactorily".

The only exception to this I can think of is the placement of a radiator at or near a skylight or roof vent, to keep cold drafts from forming there. Once in a while I see this in very old buildings.

The buildings I have seen with radiators installed horizontal at the ceiling are industrial buildings with clearstory skylights.

    Ahhhh

Those would be similar to the roof skylight rads I've seen- main purpose was to counteract cold downdrafts. Those old clerestories and skylights were pretty drafty, especially the ones that could be opened. There was probably more radiation at or near floor level to warm the workers.

    Dontcha love this old stuff?
