Gravity conversion? Mark H

Got a call today from a friend of a friend, you know how that goes.
This fellow and his wife purchased a home this past February and it came equipped with a new shiny boiler.
The system had been "converted" from gravity to forced circulation. Besides the usual near boiler piping problems, there were no flow checks on any of the zones. OHHH, 3 zones including an indirect!!
With our recent spat of 90+ degree weather, can't imagine what the temp was in the house when morning showers were going on.
The owner said that they had noticed that the second floor would overheat even though it was on it's own zone. I explained what flow checks were and why they needed them.
He said that he and his wife figured that it was the hot air from the first floor rising to the second. While that will occur, I told him, the real culprit for the overheat was gravity circulation.
I get to see lots of these "almost conversions" around here. Dan's books should be standard issue to anyone working in this trade!!
Have fun out there!!!!

Perfect!.........
application for the Grundfos UP1542FC.FC suffix for flow check.Realizing the curve maybe a bit strong for the gravity
design but certainly swapping circs would be a $$ saver.
