Radiator foot warmer

One of the guys I work with has a whole bunch of Scientific Americans from the early 1900's. He scanned this ad and sent it to me. Thought some of you 'radiator collectors' might get a kick out of this 'accessory' (dated 12/4/1904).
Anybody ever seen one?

Foot Warmer
Pretty cool , I wonder how much E.D.R. the foot warmer adds . Hmmmmmmm.... I wonder why a pet cock is installed on the radiators steam vent tap ?0 -

and I like it. Thanks for sharing!Retired and loving it.0 -
That has to be OLD
to have a manual air vent on a steam radiator. This setup was common before the days of reliable automatic air vents. The first really good automatic vent was the Hoffman #1, which came out in 1912.
I still see some manual vents out there occasionally- usually on a third- or fourth-floor rad in a room that was used rarely if at all.
