what is the reason for the pin hole in hot water
radiator valves?

    Pin-hole in valve

    To keep a touch of flow even when closed to make freeze-ups less likely.

    However, that pin hole was sized for gravity systems...

    Put a pump on it and it can become hard to control the heat output of the rad.....there is no off position.
