I have always air tested my tanks in the 3 -5 PSI range.Then
soap test the welds.I have been told by my wholesaler that this is not necessary because the tanks have been tested at the manufacturer.With no inspectors in my area anything goes.What do some of you do?I have two 275's to pipe next week.

PS .........years ago (12 or more) I did return a tank that leaked .......it bubbled from the air/soap test.CYA!

    It depends

    It depends on the tank manufacturer. If you are required to install tanks built to UL -80 standards - you must field test the tank . Some tank mfg's test their tanks and this alleviates you of the responsibility. Granby does . This is why we use them.

    Granby tanks are also stamped not for home owner installation.

    Considdering all the risks. I would pressure test any tank your not sure of and watch the first fill.
