Vacuum Breaker on Vacuum System - Brian

A vaccum breaker located on the controls on the boiler feeds air into the system when the vacuum pump starts. I am getting corrosion. Is this vacuum breaker required, if yes.. why.. if no.. why? Thanks.

  • Not enough info

Those 2 devices aren't usually found on the same system. One of them is misapplied. Which vacuum system is it?

    it sounds like..

sounds like a vacuum breaker for the boiler itself. Do you have multiple boilers? If you are rotating between multiple boilers you can inadvertantly create a vacuum in a boiler by isolating it while it is still hot. the vacuum breaker on the "down" boiler would keep this from happening. It sounds like you may have a bad trap somewhere. I think the vacuum breaker is doing what it was intended to do. Steam systems are open systems and will be exposed to air constantly, so corrosion can be a problem. Removing the vacuum breaker may cause you more problems. Where is the corrosion and is it causing you problems?

    just my opinion

    It shouldn't be there

It's like having a humidifier and a dehumidifier in the same room.
    Retired and loving it.
