Anyone use Space Pac - Ron Jr.

I have also installed both SpacePak & Unico! Both Systems are very nice and are good for different applications. I still don't think you can beat a high SEER conventional system w/ an EMC motor, but these high velocity systems can get where others can not!

air handler in a house we installed a boiler in . The house was huge - not sure how big overall , but the boiler was sized at 175,000 btus . Any way , over in the corner of the basement was a little 2 foot by 3 foot air handler - looked extremely small for the house . The main trunk looked like 18 inch round ductboard , but the takeoffs looked like 3 inch . This system seems like the ideal fit for houses with limited clearance in the attic or basement - and running the takeoffs and cutting in the eyeball vents looks lile a snap.

Anyone use this product ? Any issues with noise due to the higher velocity of air? And how is the cost compared to a conventional central air system. Thanks alot.

    Not Space-Pac but......... Mark H

we have used Hi-V by ESP. Space-Pac and Unico and Hi-V are all good systems and the science is sound.

Never had a noise issue. High velocity systems are easier to install though the air handling units cost more.

    Love em'!!

    Before I started using Unico.....

I had installed a couple of Space Pak units with no issues. Nice units, although I am very fond of the Unico's modular approach, as opposed to Space Pak's single blower, evaporator and heating module units. Makes 'em heavy to get up in an attic, at least for an older guy like me (g).

Noise isn't much more of an issue than anything other type if designed and installed according to manufacturer's instructions.

Having used both the Unico System and Space Pak, I'll stay with Unico. The people at Unico are also top notch.

    Spacepak in my house

I have a Spacepak system in my house - I did the AHU and ductwork, HVAC contractor did the condensor, lineset and charging.

Supply plenum is 9in ID/11 in OD "super round" duct from JM

Return is flex and varies with size of unit - my 2.5ton system uses 15in. All returns are odd sizes which "encourage" purchase from Spacepak :-)

Takeoffs are 2in ID and 4in nominal OD - will fit in a 3.5in wall in a pinch. I used 4in ID thinwall drain pipe for physical protection in a closet and it was snug.

I have a couple of terminations that are noisier than the rest due to tight radius (but still within specs) bends near the termination.

System has worked well for the two seasons it's been in. Unico seems to have a better selection of tech documents, I liked the Spacepak supply tubing connection system and painted AHU (Unico looks to be mill finish).

  • Thanks guys

I told my supervisor about the comments on Spacepac and Unico . His reply was " They make you buy all their equipment for the job , and its more expensive " . When I replied that the labor savings might offset the cost , and the room gained in an attic might look more attractive to a potential customer , not to mention all the closet room gained from not using 7 inch round ducts in the corners - he gave me the good ol' befuddled look , the one that you know whatever I said goes in one ear and out the other.
