The Crazy Story Contest - Alan R. Mercurio

Do you remember for a few years in a row we held a crazy story contest at www.oiltechtalk.com ? For those of who have not heard of this contest, please allow me to explain. It's really simple. Just share a crazy story regarding something that has happened to you during your time in this trade and it must be related to your work. The contest runs for a week so you have time to think back to your craziest moment in your career. At the end of the week a pre selected judge will pick what they feel is the craziest story in their opinion. Then the winner sends me a mailing address and I send you your prize! How cool is that? And if you submitted a story in the past and yours was not chosen please feel free to eneter it again. You never know, you may just be the lucky winner this year!

Normally I did this every January but I did not run the contest this year because honestly I got busy with things and simply forgot to do it (Sorry). the other day my daughter Toni and I were out enjoying the beautiful day and our time together when all the sudden Toni asked me why I did not have the contest this year? Ya see Toni enjoys reading your stories.

I explained to her why and how I forgot and she said well does the contest have to be in January or can you do it whenever you want Dad? I thought and said actually Toni I guess I can do it whenever I want. Then bless her little heart she said then lets do it again and the prize this year can be your new book Dad! Wouldn't that even be good advertising for your book she asked? I just sat there in awe thinking Man has God blessed me with one sharp little girl. And it gets better Toni and I are thinking of more contests and special deals we can bring our friends in the industry. So, stay tuned to Oil Tech Talk.

Now back to the crazy story contest. It will start at Midnight June 30th 2002 and the winner will be announced next Sunday, July 7th as soon as we get home from church :) This years judge will be once again the famous, the one and only PAH. That's The Plumber At Heart, Dave Yates a man I have a great deal of respect for. Dave thanks for joining us again this year.

Remember this years Prize is a copy of my newest book Carry the Torch - Life experiences and technical data to live by. This is the first edition and they are going quick Thanks to all of you that have purchased my new book. Have fun my friends and good luck to all of you.

To join the contest go to www.oiltechtalk.com

    Great sport

    Alan,

I'm looking forward to reading all of the entries and since I've got my copy of "Carry the Torch", I can attest to it being a grand prize.

Too bad I can't play :( cause I've got a few - like the dog that never bit anyone till I came along, the "I only hit the reset once - BOOM!" boy did she move quick, her feet never even touched the steps(G)or the time we ended up in the middle of a freshly plowed field after a hard rain - up to the axles in mud & the boss due any minute, or the time we pulled a stone lined water heater out with our truck & the steps decided to go along too or how about the time my helper set a house on fire and politely waited till I was done a solder joint to ask if I'd help put out the fire - Yikes!

    Thank you

Dave, thanks again for being our judge this year and for the kind words regarding my first book. I'm glad you have been enjoying it.

Murph, Surely you have a story to share and since you already bought the book (Thank you for your business) If you win the contest I'll send you a refund. How's that for a good deal?

I could tell stories about Murph though. The driving thing alone could raise the hairs on the back of a warthog! Just ask Starch.

    Good story

    Alan:

I'd like to talk with your winner and see if he/she would consent to having the story published in The News. This sounds like something we could eventually expand on, too. Good luck!
