    it is probably a lock that is so sloppy that it is trivial to open it with a piece of shim stock or even a piece of a pop can and a paperclip.

    I assume it's locked? You can probably jiggle it open with the little file in your toe nail clippers.

    For me, on small locks like that where I do not need the security but it may the part of the latching mechanism I take it out and remove the tumblers.

    Then any screwdriver will unlatch it, but it appears to be locked for the unknowing.

    Of course it is already unlocked before this process.
