Indirect life expectancy
The owner of a system I service was told by an energy auditor that they would probably have to replace their Indirect soon. I believe the auditor is going strictly on age. It is Peerless model 51193 (PP-40) manufactured 10/02 which puts it over 20 years. that is assuming that means August 2002. It does come with a limited lifetime warrantee which wont apply, because they are not the original owners. But, it should indicate quality.
I've serviced the system for two years which is a two zone oil fired boiler, one zone being the indirect. It is located in a clean, dry basement. The indirect exterior very clean with no corrosion on the fittings. it really looks just a few years old. I draw about a gallon out of the drain each year and very little if any sediment. I test the T & P and it seals up afterwards.
I want to alleviate their concerns but before I say "don't worry" I want to check with the herd.
Thanks

Hi, Is it a glass-lined steel tank, or? If lined, It can be maintained. Knowing about the water quality… things like pH and sodium would help in knowing what to do.

Manufacturers have bounced back and forth between glass steel and stainless. I think Peerless relabels someones tank?
Life expectancy depends a lot on water quality, operating temperature, how many gallons pass through it, service, if any. Tank construction and weld quality also.
I on't think you can predict the life of any indirect.

looking up that model it looks a lot like it is a rebranded htp superstore. it is a stainless tank and cupronickel coil. depending on water quality it could last 50 years, it could last 15.
if i were buying the house i don't think i would be asking the seller to give me a discount because of the age of that particular tank but you never know how long it actually will last.
