We need more details. Is this a slab home with the original radiant heating system in the floor? Similar to the ones that i believe originated in Levittown Long Island (NY)? If so, I own a similar home in NJ.
Personally, I would prefer to not have a oil fired boiler in my kitchen. They are noisy, have a large footprint, smelly (especially when serviced), and typically designed for larger homes. In addition if your oil tank and oil line(s) are original, I would be concerned. Finally, if you get domestic hot water from a tankless coil, there are better options today.
Assuming there is natural gas available, I would prefer it over. More options, smaller wall hung units available. Much better suited for a kitchen installation.
Start with a heat load calculation, this will determine what size boiler you need. Might want to use the "find a contractor" tool on this website.

After over 70 years you still have an original boiler ?!?! WOW!!! I would like to see pictures too!
You can count on there being a few more options available then Mr. Levitt offered in the 1940s and 50s. If natural gas is not an option, there are some oil burner boilers that operate a lot quieter than others. Oil burner noise in the kitchen is a concern. You would definitely want to hear it operate elsewhere before committing to it in your own home.

After you make that expensive repair and you still have the same problem, What will you check next?

ISTR @Ron Jr._3 replaced a lot of boilers in Levitt homes- maybe he'll chime in.

thanks for input, radiant on first floor replaced w/baseboard. original heater is correct, the country club modeling a 2 story, customer has no access to gas, and I can't talk him into relocating unit. ill post pics later when I return to job, but thousands of these have likely been replaced, hoping to get a tip on the better choices
