nozzle question

Options

Going to do the tune up on my Beckett AFG burner tomorrow on my Burnham V7 steam boiler and wanted to make sure I had the correct stuff on hand so I looked through the Beckett manual and for my particular appliance it calls for a .85 80°B nozzle, however on a previous service tag from 2012, they noted that it had a .85 80°A nozzle in it and that was what they put in. When Dad and I did the filters and nozzle last year, we put in the same nozzle that was noted on the service tag. Should I put in what's on the tag, or should I go back to what is in the Beckett book? I am going to be having my plumber / boiler guy coming over soon to give me a hand with the combustion chamber, brushing the heat exchanger, changing the pigtail, etc etc along with a combustion and efficiency test. Why would they have the alternate nozzle in it?

Perhaps the most important question is- do you have a combustion analyzer, smoke tester and everything else needed to tune that burner?

I don't, I'll probably just do the filter and strainer and then when I get my guy over here he will put his combustion analyzer on it and then we will determine what nozzle to put in.

Use the nozzle that gives you the best combustion #s. Put 1 nozzle in and adjust and test the combustion. Then switch nozzles and combustion test again without making any adjustments.

Thanks Ed. I have to swing by Webb tomorrow to pick up some oil treatment as well as a pigtail so I'll pick up the B nozzle as well. Think tomorrow I'll just pop in the new A nozzle as it's already adjusted for that one. Once my guy's schedule frees up he'll swing by and we will do the combustion chamber, replacing the pigtail, brushing the heat exchanger and then combustion analysis.
