How to completely turn off a Vent-rite #1
I have a radiator in my apartment bedroom that gets WAY too hot. So in the past the way I've turned off a radiator, usually with a gorton vent, is to turn it upside down and the radiator is basically off. But I got tired of constantly turning it upside down and wearing out the teflon tape. So I asked my landlord to switch to a vent-rite valve and turned it (seemingly) all the way off. The problem is it doesn't turn all the way off. Some air still escapes it (abiet very slowly) and eventually the whole radiator is heated up and my room is a sauna. The problem is when I turn the Vent-rite upside down it doesn't seem to stop it. Is there another way to completely turn this thing off when I need to? I still want to be able to turn it on when it gets really cold.

If there is room, install a ball valve between the radiator and the vent. You can shut it down 100% whenever you want.
A more sophisticated but also more expensive option would be a TRV, a Thermostatic Radiator Valve (I think). In addition to venting like a normal radiator vent it is also thermostatically controlled by a dial on the valve. When the valve gets to a certain temperature it shuts.

turn the valve off completely instead of relying on the air vent or screw in a TRV with an integral vacuum breaker like this one:
