Should a Silencer / Muffler have a significant pressure drop after a Pressure reducing valve?
I work in facilities and I'm trying to learn more about steam.
My incoming steam pressure is around 130-150 PSI from the plant. We have a PRV to reduce it down to 15 PSI. In between though there is a Silencer / Muffler. Is it normal to see a 30-40 PSI drop on the silencer / muffler?
150 PSI > PRV > 55 > Silencer > 15 psi.
I wouldn't normally know about the issue, but since it got colder and demand went up in my building, we have dropped below 10 PSI and I have started to notice issues. The people who manage the "PRV" have told me its normal, and don't want to raise my building pressure above 12 now.
I'm sure there is supposed to be some pressure drop, but how could I go about finding what it should be, and what should I do to troubleshoot if i do have a problem?
