I added a more pics, sorry if they are repetitive. I see the pressure is high when it's running also. << apparently I had the same issue last year bc i see it was my last post. I really need to learn about this thing during the off season instead of always running into problems in winter. >>

Original post: Please help me identify this part the water is leaking from and the lower handle I don't know if it should be open or closed, I may have caught my shirt on it while reaching between the wall & the unit and now I'm not sure if I moved it or not.

the upper part is a boiler drain. you can put a hose thread cap on it until it is more convenient to drain that part of the system and replace it.

can you show a couple pictures of the lower valve from a couple different angles, especially from the right side, i can't quite tell how it is connected to the other piping.

I think the lower valve is just a ball valve but can't tell 100% that it isn't a 3 way valve or something.

The drain valve should obviously be closed. The ball valve should be at least be half way open. It tempers the hot water entering the water heater.

I think the ball valve was halfway and maybe that's why I thought I moved it. I will take more pictures when I get home, I had to leave for work and just put a bucket under it and turned down the heat. Thanks!

@mattmia2 when you say drain that part of the system and replace it. Do you mean replace the boiler drain part b/c that's whats leaking? Okay it sounds dumb when I say it but is it just that simple... the part isn't working properly anymore?

@Juggatweet The handle on the drain valve try turning it clockwise and see if it sops leaking. If it doesn't you can pick up a hose cap at a hardware store or at the big box. Tell them you want a brass hose cap and a washer. It is the same thread as a garden hose.
