Slapping draft regulator on burner start
I recently serviced a Crown KSZ150 steamer that the draft regulator slaps right after the burner lights.
This boiler is very clean and new looking.
The DR is only about 12" above the breech and there is a 90 right above it due to supply main interference. then 16" horizonal and another 90 and then about 3 feet to the chimney.
I think I should move the regulator to the middle of the run to the chimney as I have seen recommended in posts on this subject here on HH. Field Controls guide says "locate the control as close as possible to the furnace or boiler" maybe I should "as close as possible" with consideration to this…
Also when I showed up the regulator weight was missing, probably vibrated off. my current remedy for this is to carry washers, 10-24 carriage bolts, wing nuts and lock tight.
The fire looks and sounds good otherwise, Ca:
draft OF -.1 Breech -.3-.5ish
at 0 Smoke - 1%
Tstack 485
02 5.1
CO 53
CO2 11.88
AT 56
Thanks for the help!

I went back today to discuss this with the homeowner and make the change and having moved a shelf on one side of the chimney found a nice, intact 8" Type RC regulator on the chimney. I temporarily taped off the pipe regulator and was able to adjust draft correctly with the chimney unit. A piece of 7" pipe to replace the T and things are sweet!
Ill take an easy one. And the lesson that I need to be better at looking the chimney of on a new to me system.

Glad it is fixed. Chimney mounted barometric used to be very common. As long as it controls the draft your good to go.

Right and from what I've experienced, they last longer because they don't get knocked about every time the pipe is cleaned.
