pipe deteriorated on a diy manifold
I installed a hot water heating system about 12 years ago or a friend. I had to build a custom supply and return manifold for the hot water boiler, because there weren't manifolds large enough for the size of the house on a zoned system.
Over the years, I noticed a green discoloration and some kind of crusty build up on some of the joints connecting the manifold.
IdoI don't know if it's because I used too much flux when I soldered the fittings, or if there was an additive I was supposed to add to the hot water system to prevent this.
For reasons I also can't explain, the ball valves I used to shut off sections of the house in an emergency are also frozen, where I can't open or shut them.
What did I miss?

either you didn't rinse the flux off or you have a tiny leak
the frozen valves are because you didn't exercise them. you should close and open them a couple times a year so they don't get stuck in place with mineral deposits.
