Hydronic heating

my son bought home Oil fired baseboard heating with separate electric domestic water heater. Noticed the tankless coil on boiler is twined into water heater Any thoughts seems odd to me

    Pics? "Twinned" meaning two colds and two hots? Or is it an aquabooster?

    It's not that uncommon. It depends on how it's piped and controlled.
    Coil could be preheating the tank water
    Tank could be for storage with the coil making domestic hot water.
    Previous owner could've used the electric water heater to make hot water during the seasons the boiler is off and the coil during the heating season.
    Or any combination of the above.
