    Gas control? Gas valve?

Its a White Rodgers valve. Part number starts with 36C74 - ***. The WM part number is 510 - 811 - ***, but more info is needed before you get the rest.

Are you an HVAC tech? Why do you need the gas valve? Natural or propane? (Different part numbers) Who checks gas pressure?

Thanks, I was in the field but now retired, its L.P. and been converted from Nat. Gas control sometimes sticks shut , Its a 24 volt control 1991 weil vintage HE-II-3 , The company that fills the tank checks pressure, I have not, perhaps that's a good place to start, was able to get it to start by tapping on gas control have has to do this multiple times. It sometime sits for days in cold weather before starting up again. coming up with 511-044-354 as a part number for replacement valve I am not currently at the property but would like to come there prepared with the gas control if needed Thanks - Paul

did you check with a meter when it didn't fire? is the mv energized? if it has a vent damper, the end switch on that failing is a very common cause of what you describe.

yes there is power to the gas valve , but that's a good point maybe not enough amps ? to open valve

if there isn't enough current the voltage will drop

If its the HE II I'm looking at, its a 24 volt gas valve with a hot surface igniter.

I'm asking after the new gas valve is installed, who verifies 10" wc manifold pressure?

Yes thats correct , I will check pressure with my manometer, I'm looking at a

White Rodgers 36C74-314 as a replacement , is this what you are thinking ?

It appears that many of the 36C74 valves are discontinued. Even the replacement for the 36C74-227 is discontinued at several online suppliers I looked at. I have found that the Honeywell (Resideo)  VR8345M valve is a good replacement for just about 90% of all the direct ignition gas valves used on boilers and furnaces. It is also able to be used for spark to pilot applications. Carefully read the instructions to get the proper wiring configuration. Spark to pilot or Direct spark or HSI operation. You can find that valve at most suppliers online or brick and mortar.

After you make that expensive repair and you still have the same problem, What will you check next?

thank you Ed , i managed to secure the W.R. 36C74 -314 in a LP reading through the specs. It should work .. what are your thoughts ?

That sounds fine if you already own it. I have found that many times this valve can cost over $300. or $400. and this Honeywell is less expansive and cross references to many other valves

Thanks Ed , the two wires threw me with this valve . It seems I just plug these back into the terminals provided on the valve . That are the same terminals as the other from the control from the boiler. I plug these pilot tap on the valve because boiler has hot surface engnight .
