Oil? Nozzle size and pump pressure gives you btu content, times efficiency.
Gas? Clock meter times efficiency.

That is hard to do unless you have a boiler in front of you.
I believe that @Brian_S is compiling a list of old equipment for reference purposes. Not actually working on one.

After you make that expensive repair and you still have the same problem, What will you check next?

From an old HeatingHelp.com post of 2005:
Federal boiler was bought many years ago by a.l.eastmond&sons in nyc. today the boiler company is known as EASCO BOILER CO. the telephone #718 378 3000
From google search for EASCO Boiler:
Supreme Boilers, a leading company in the boiler industry, has
acquired the designs of the EASCO boiler models that have been
available for decades. Due to Supreme’s cutting-edge technology
and unwavering commitment to quality, the Model FPS and FST Series
are more efficient than ever.Don't know if this is any help

One of those companies EASCO or AL Eastmond used to make the boilers that Iron Fireman sold rebranded and they were great boilers.
