Repairing an aluminum coil

Options

We have a trane four ton condenser coil that has a leak in the coil. the leak is in the discharge header on one of the tubes where it transitions from aluminum to copper. I know at one time Trane made a kit to couple these tubes back together, but I never had to use it and am wondering if anyone had used it with success, or brazed it closed? The coil is 4 ton, 410 a

you could also get an aluminum tube that someone else has transitioned to copper and solder the aluminum to aluminum. i don't know the details but i know with the right solder and flux you can solder aluminum to aluminum.

I think you could also flare a piece of aluminum tubing and solder/braze it to the coil and connect the copper to the flare. Flare was how I dealt with the aluminum tubing in a mini fridge.

I purchased some "Aluminum Braising sticks" once and had minor success sealing up a hole in a coil one time. I melted the channel closed and stopped the leak that way. not really a success in my mind but the leak was gone. As far as Aluminum to Copper… I remember that repair kit but never used one. Can't help you on that one except to show you this Trane repair kit on amazon.com

After you make that expensive repair and you still have the same problem, What will you check next?

oh, it is an aluminum tube leaking where it transitions to copper? I think you can flare the 2 and just use a flare fitting.
