The History of PEX: A New PPI Report

From our friends at the Plastics Pipe Institute:
PPI’s Building & Construction Division has released the new PPI TR-56 “History of Crosslinked Polyethylene (PEX) Tubing in North America and Timeline of ASTM Standard Specification F876 from 1984 – 2024”.
ASTM F876 "Standard Specification for Crosslinked Polyethylene (PEX) Tubing" was first published in 1984 and has been one of the most active and referenced ASTM International pipe standards. To celebrate its 40th anniversary, this Technical Report describes the history of PEX tubing in North America and provides a timeline of the evolution of ASTM F876 over forty years, from 1984 – 2024. It includes quotes from Thomas Engel about the invention of PEX, as told to Dan Holohan, and quotes from Tomas Lenman, aka “Mr. PEX” about the development of PEX tubing and this important standard specification.
You can read the full report here.
Thank you to PPI for all of their hard work and extensive research!
