After you make that expensive repair and you still have the same problem, What will you check next?

Its like anything else. If you find the right buyer that needs it it could be worth something. Most will not be interested in removing an already installed boiler , moving it reassembly and pressure test.
Best bet would be to find an building owner that can use it.

or a pool or shop or something like that they are looking to heat on the cheap.
typically you have to pay to get rid of something like this. why are you replacing it?

Try to find some fool to buy it or scrap it for about $0.07/ lb.

We're not replacing it, just removing it as oil became to expensive for the owner 😏 like for all other building owners
I was thinking more about the controls that seem to be in good condition is it responsible or worth it to install for other boiler repair now that most people are tight on there budget
Thank you all for the input

why not just put a gas power burner on it?

He didn't ask for my opinion and I don't think it would matter anyway like almost everyone else except the plumbers he went for heat pumps
All that's left for for me now is try to make some money on the removal filings and possibly the parts of the boiler

The PowerFlame burner is probably be worth more than the boiler.

Are heat pumps that efficient now? using electric to suck the heat out of 5°F outside air and compress it to heat a building that used to be heated by steam does not sound like anyone who is in the decision making process was doing the due diligence required to keep the occupants comfortable this winter.
I am reminded of the Rabbi that called me from Ventnor City, NJ who purchased an old church building and removed all the steam pipes and the boiler from the church basement. Now the Temple has 10 huge radiators behind decorative radiator covers that match the interior of the building. They have two 5-ton mini-split heat pumps that cool the building just fine (maybe) but all the congregation wear overcoats in the winter.
His query was "How much will it cost to reconnect the 10 radiators to a new steam boiler?"
I asked him what kind of budget he had for the project? When he replied with a number, I said I might be able to connect one radiator for that much money. A boiler big enough for all ten radiators would cost much more and the piping even more. You now have a worthless building to sell to someone for summer time only use… maybe!

You could make it efficient at 5f but the condenser would have to be huge and it would probably have to be a 2 stage refrigeration system so it would be really expensive.

As long as the electric bill is on the tenant landlords don't really care I guess it's some what working because people going for it all over at least in my area here in Brooklyn
Or maybe some more time will pass and people will change there mind ( wishful thinking )

@EdTheHeaterMan love that rabbi story it's stunning how people with tight budgets will spend the money to rip somthing out without thinking I guess demolition is cheap everyone can do it

Had the old bus station in Hartford, CT. They had steam and renovated tore it all out. Put in Gas fired roof tops with ac.
The building walls were brick construction and were exposed inside. They changed it into offices during the reno. What a joke.
Yeah you could get the air temp to 70 or above but everyone that worked their complained. Dan talks about "cold 70" in one of his books. The walls were cold and it was awful.
That's what happens when you rip out perimeter heat with a large heat loss at the walls or a lot of windows. Ducted overhead heat is always a problem unless you add perimeter around the room. With a VAV system they always complain about cold air blowing on them even if its warm the velocity make it feel cold.
Yeah it was designed by an engineer
