Hub transition from CI to vitrified clay called...?

I see a lot of mission couplings for when there's no clay hub, but what's the donut called to take 4" cast to a 4" clay hub? You'd think there's something like the yellow plastic rings used to connect clay sections together but nothing comes up on Google.

Internet "code" says "preformed bituminous ring" but I see nothing like that on the web.

@delcrossv Fernco calls it a "Multi Tite" I call it a soil pipe push gasket. Here's a few examples.

I was unlucky enough to crack a 4" cast iron hub trying to get a 3" PVC pipe into a Fernco donut. Maybe the CI had a small unseen crack, IDK.

I feel I would be more unlucky trying to get that into a clay hub.

What's the other option? Oakum and cement?

    This looks pretty safe:

Hi, How about putting a big hose clamp around the pipe, snugging it up a bit, and then cramming the Fernco into it? 🤠 That's what I do when making any threaded connection to a plastic female adapter.

I believe I sawed the hub off and used a Fernco coupling.

I don't think the hub size is standardized on clay pipe, I think you need to measure and find the right doughnut. You can also pack it with oakum and pour and pack lead or oakum and pack it with lead wool or probably oakum and mortar. Make sure you dry out the hub with the torch before you pour the led, if it is wet the steam will cause bad things to happen. You can find a transition fernco that fits over the outside of the hub and over the PVC and put it over the packed joint as a secondary seal. Could pour it all in concrete after you do it too so if the joint fails it is still all essentially contained in a formed in place concrete pipe.

Little worried about packing in lead wool as clay isnt strong under tension. Sure wouldn't be comfortable using caulking chisels on a clay bell. Maybe just flat chisels and hope it's enough. At least with CI you can tell when it's tight as the sound changes when working the chisels.

The big hose clamp idea is brilliant. Definitely adding that to the toolbox.

i mean don't just go to town on it, you have to use some judgment about what you're working with. the oakum is what makes the seal, the lead is just there to hold it together.

I've used oakum & hydraulic cement on Vitrified Clay joints as well. Mad Dog
