Lennox S40 "Will start soon" message

I have a Lennox EL22XPV Heat Pump connected to a S40 thermostat that was installed one year ago.

We recently changed the electric air handler for a propane furnace (SLP99UHV). Since the change I have been getting the "Will Start Soon" message on the thermostat screen almost every time before the heat pump starts in heating mode. The heat pump always starts eventually and heats as normal.

I know that this message will appear after a power interruption to the internal pressures to equalize. Before the change to the furnace I did get this message now an again and I asked one of the technicians about it and he told me that if there is no error messages or the message would not go away that it was not cause for concern.

Thanks in advance for your feedback.

sounds like something is wired wrong so that power to the t-stat drops at some point in the cycle.

I'm confused. Did you get rid of the heat pump or not. you said that you changed to a furnace but then said the heat pump will start in heat.

I think they replaced the electric resistance backup with a gas furnace for backup when the hp is inadequate.

Just to clarify we did replace the electric furnace with the propane. The electric was too noisy in our house. We still have the same heat pump.

Does this message appear before every cycle, or only if you manually adjust the temperature?

Yes, it appears before the cycle and sometimes the heat pump will start and run for maybe 10 minutes, cycle off, the message will return, after which the heat pump will resume. It is difficult to capture the precise pattern.

sounds like the t-stat isn't being powered from the system while it is in a heat pump call so the battery/capacitor goes dead, it stops the hp call, the battery charges and it comes back on, sees that it needs to do a heat call, starts a heat call, the battery goes dead, the cycle starts over.

That is either because the installers didn't hook the common to the thermostat back up when they replaced the equipment, they possibly reversed the polarity of something, or for some reason it is dropping power to the t-stat while it is in a heat call.

Was the old indoor unit communicating and the new one using a interface module? That communicating thermostat should just be 4 wires to the indoor unit and communicate at least with that

The "will start soon" message is indicating a 5 minute delay between compressor starts, not sure why that would have changed when the indoor unit got changed. Almost sounds like the heat pump is short cycling?

Both the replaced air handler and the new furnace are communicating units. I spent some time this morning tracking the various phases it goes through. I am trying to establish a pattern before I call the dealer. It should be mentioned that the heat pump never fails to maintain the temperature in the house all through this but I feel I need to have them in to check wiring etc.

Thanks for all the feed back.
