Amtrol boilermate WH-41 leaking

given the price of a new indirect, and the price of a replacement Flange gasket, I have decided to try replacing the flange gasket.

it came with no directions. And read the owners manual, and it gives no directions.

gasket is replacedand heat exchanger is back in the unit and all of the nuts are just snug. Worked opposite ends in a pattern for even engagement.

anybody hazard a guess how much those nuts should be torqued down to?

been on hold with technical services for half an hour already.

    Are you still on hold? Slow fill the tank and attach a pressure gauge. Let the tank build some pressure. Then turn off the water and watch the gauge.

    what size bolts? you can probably find a torque online based on the bolt diameter.

    i waited for service tech for an hour before giving up.

    And having not seen a response here and figuring either I stop the leak or buy a new unit I had little to lose.

    i torqued the nuts to 20 foot pounds and reinstalled hooking up pressurized water. 20 ft lbs was not nearly enough. So Itightened every nut even turns going around until the leaking stopped. Given poor access from beneath the unit I could not fit the torgue wrench and hence have no idea how much torque needed to be applied.

    I left fan blowing on the floor overnight and this morning it is bone dry, and no hint of water dripping from flange or bolts…

    that is a situation where there are so many variables that rotational torque is probably not an accurate representation of the tension on the fastener

    @Ray_Frechette

    You did the best you could it is probably fine. Torque specs for brand new stuff is one thing, used is always a variable.

    Too bad the MFG could not reply to a simple question. Maybe they don't have a torque spec.

    tank is running full of hot water, still no leaks…

    It would have been nice to at least have a preliminary range. It was much more convenient to be tightening when I had good access and not have water dripping down on me and laying in a spreading puddle…
