Napoleon natural gas fireplace pilot

After 10 years of faithful service the pilot on my GD36 will not stay lit. A new assembly is on order.
Can anyone help me understand sequence of operations?
I believe the larger metal cylinder is the thermo pile body which provides voltage to open main gas valve on call for heat.
Does the thermocouple provide voltage to the pilot valve coil?
The flame rod in the ceramic must provide flame rectification but in which circuit? Where does it it its voltage from? There is no outside power source to this appliance.

Is the flame rod a piezo? Thermocouple to hold the pilot valve open. Thermopile to hold the main valve open with an external switch in series. My best guess.
8.33 lbs./gal. x 60 min./hr. x 20°ΔT = 10,000 BTU's/hour

Yes, there is a push button piezo ignitor so there probably isn't any flame rectification going on.
It's making more sense to me now.
