Got a No Heat call from a close, personal lifelong family friend whose Elderly sister & younger brother still live in this 1910 Ozone Park home. Our beloved old neighborhood. I practically lived in this house growing up and I remember the big old steam radiators.

At some point in the 1980s their father ripped it all out, had duct work and a gas Furnace installed. I don't think it was ever serviced. Since I don't do furnaces or ductwork, I rec'd a great local HVAC outfit, Lindenwood & AC.

The founder Richie D lived directly behind us and did all the houses on.the New Side of Howard Beach in the 1960s. They did a great job & had it replaced 2 days later. Mad Dog

Matt..I don't know because I'm not a furnace guy and I didn't do the replacement.

When I originally went there I was working "naked" (No tools) on my way home from the Big City. When I saw this, I shut the gas cock, AND knob on gas valve to off. I shut service & Stairway switch & in no uncertain terms I told my buddy, "DO NOT RUN THIS...IT S DONE AND COULD KILL EVERYONE IN THE D—-house! I'm gonna find you a Furnace guy....."

A few hours later he sends me a video of the unit running..."Look..Matt...it's a beautiful blue flame!!!!...I vacuumed the soot..I think we're good!!"

Moral of the story: Dont EVER trust anyone, even a "brother" to not listen do deadly things....mad Dog

Wow, I remember working on some Carrier furnaces like that when I first started my apprenticeship. Those furnaces were considered antiques 20 years ago.

Removing or relocating a wire will often prevent that from happening

After you make that expensive repair and you still have the same problem, What will you check next?

Of course, but my old pal is a licensed NYC Electrician & Union Electrician:

"I got it from here, Matty!!"

I've ripped wires off runaway boilers and have had a couple of physical confrontations with building owners, doing it. That's why I'm posting this....

Dont trust ANYONE, even Fambly to listen to you or exhibit a modicum of common sense. Mad Dog

The percentage of heating industry "professionals" that mistakenly call it Carbon Dioxide terrifies me. Mad Dog
