A friend is working on a Frank Lloyd Wright home in IL. Bare 2", welded steel pipe in the joist bays. The wood floor above has tiny slots to let the heat escape.
Portions of the home froze and split the steel pipe!
Here is a similar application I found online.

Hi, I'm thinking "rust never sleeps". 🙀. Otherwise, how likely is it the pipe could split?
