Did Everyone Get The TT Recall Letter?

Erin posted the recall here last month.

This has to do with Prestige Solo and Excellence boilers sold between December 2011 and April 2019.

The real question here is: Does everyone keep serial numbers for all the boilers you service and install?

8.33 lbs./gal. x 60 min./hr. x 20°ΔT = 10,000 BTU's/hour

Two btu per sq ft for degree difference for a slab

the manufacturer may know which wholesalers got those date codes models. At least to track down where they were sold from?

Do the wholesalers keep a record of the serial numbers when they sell them?

We certainly try to… We switched our computer systems in 2017 or so and any serials we had logged before that time are really hard to find. I dont think we got a list of serials from TT but we did send out notices to as many contractors based on sales we could identify, when we switched sales software it only kept historical data back to 2014 I think. The new software allows us to search by serial and we can very easily identify these types of things. I have to think stuff like this is why there has been a push to register product from boiler manufacturers the last few years.

One of the first things I do when I install or service a boiler is notate the serial number. Tech. support at most manufacturers won’t talk to you without that. One of the reasons is that different generations of boilers have different controls, thus different coding, different parameters, different parts diagrams…….

And then, when there’s a serious recall, I can spot the customers that need corrective action.

Part of the reason I can do this now is that I’m a small shop and I have time - usually in the evening or early morning - to make notations. I don’t think larger shops have that luxury or any incentive for future service work.
