Weil McLain Gold oil burner

Hi! All, My Weil McLain could use a good flushing I believe and I'm not sure the best way to go about it. It's a Gold steam boiler. Small system as my house is only 900sqft. approx. I've drained the water from the back where the installers left one petcock. There's one on the front also, to the right bottom corner. They turned the petcock down too low to get a hose on it. I've never flushed out of it for that reason and I seem to have a lot of sludge continuously in the sight glass. I've drained the system from the back petcock but it never seems to get that much sludge. And I was going to try and get a Stillson on the petcock to turn it up enough to get a hose on it. The installer never left a pipe on what I assume is the skim port so I would have to remove the plug that's there to put a pipe and valve there if anyone thinks that's the better way. And I would also like to add 8 Way to the boiler to balance and clean the insides. Any thoughts would be appreciated. Thanks.

Yeah. I wouldn't mess with it during the heating season. In the summer I would replace those cheap petcocks with full port ball valves. You can buy ball valves with a hose end $$$ or buy threaded ball valves and use an adapter.

And put a better drain on the sight glass.

Then flush it and use 8 way

    Others will comment on that.
